The Cherokee Sun Dance - Native American Tai Chi style exercise class
Every Tuesday, starting on 18 October 2011
Theosophical Society, 17 Queens Crescent
7.30 - 8.30  Cost £5
Run by Fotoula Adrimi and Fi Sutherland

This is a ceremonial dance, celebrating All that Is, including the four directions and elements as well as our life purpose. The dance is a series of simple movements, like Tai Chi. The Native Americans do these movements daily and enjoy youthfulness, good health, peace of mind and a natural wellbeing. The physical exercises help tone the muscles in a subtle way, relieve joint pressure and build the body's natural strength and immune system.

The exercises also work at subtle energy level and they cleanse and energise the chakras and help us connect with the Earth, Heaven, the four directions and All life.

At a spiritual level, the dance is a moving meditation and focused way to break through our obstacles and empower ourselves. The dance is a prayer to the Divine.

They are easy exercises to learn and do not require any specific level of fitness.

The class is divided into two parts:
  • The mystical spiritual teachings of this ancient practice;
  • The ceremonial aspect and the dance itself, finishing with prayers for ourselves and All creation.

In itself the Sundance is a great daily spiritual practice. Fotoula and Fi have been practising the dance on a daily basis and have been given the encouragement from their shaman teacher to share the dance.
